2009 Maserati GranTurismo S

The GranTurismo S makes use of the high-performance brake system developed in collaboration with Brembo and introduced for the first time in the automotive field on the Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S. The system features front brake discs made with dual-cast technology a dual casting of cast iron and aluminum, paired with aluminum mono bloc 6 piston brake calipers, ensuring optimized braking performance.
On the exterior the Maserati GranTurismo S is characterised by a number of aesthetic modifications that, although discrete, are highly effective and make the car body appear sportier without abandoning the sleekness of the lines masterfully designed by Pininfarina.

Walking towards the Maserati GranTurismo S, I felt like a teenager trying not to stare at a Playmate’s breasts. While the “base” GranTurismo’s elegant lines, dignified proportions and powerful stance had captivated my attention, the S dared me not to look. I know; it’s stupid. At the ripe old age of near 50, I’m supposed to have left my spoiler infatuation with the pet rock slowly starving to death in the basement. And yet, somehow, the GranTurismo’s tail made the Maser’s design pop, blending pole position with pole dancing. Yes, well, I’d just driven the base Maserati GranTurismo and found the brakes, seats and handling wanting.

Based on a shortened version of the Quattroporte's architecture and featuring a Pininfarina body that was at once brawny and voluptuous, the GranTurismo was a stylish four-seat grand tourer that harked back to the Maserati 5000 of the '60s. The new GT S is a GranTurismo, but mo' better. The most noteworthy improvement is found under the hood, where the 4.2-liter V-8 has been bored and stroked to displace 4.7 liters. Tarted up with red valve covers, the engine in the GT S makes 433 hp and 361 lb-ft of torque while spinning to 7600 rpm.
